Chapter 41: Employment and Work

1. Job Position Arrangements

All employment for citizens of the Mars Federation revolves around artificial intelligence and robots. In the field of scientific theory, humans serve as scientists, utilizing AI tools to research and develop new materials, biotechnology, and more. In the manufacturing sector, humans are primarily responsible for developing and training robots, with all other tasks completed entirely by robots. Specific occupations include AI system design, AI algorithms, data collection, robot training, robot accessory design, robot maintenance, robot operation, and more. In the service industry, humans retain only a few management positions, while other high-end services such as lawyers, accountants, designers, doctors, and teachers are all handled by artificial intelligence. Ordinary construction, housekeeping, and other services are managed by humanoid robots. Each person has a dedicated AI service for legal advice, financial accounting and tax filing, medical treatment, education and knowledge transfer, and household chores. Additionally, robots can also participate in employment. For example, the latest robots developed by some scientists or produced by companies can apply for corresponding human positions, but robot work remains primarily focused on physical labor. Mental labor is assisted by large AI models to help humans.

2. Legal Working Hours

A work and vacation system of working 2 days per week with 5 days off is implemented. Each employed citizen also enjoys an additional one-month winter or summer vacation. Working hours on workdays are from 9 AM to 12 PM, totaling 3 hours. Furthermore, the Mars Federation will regularly assess increasing rest time to adapt to growing productivity and avoid entering a vicious cycle where higher productivity leads to longer working hours.
